Development: Scripting, budgeting, casting, planning as of October 22, 2012. David Fincher is looking to hoist his adaptation of Jules Verne's novel off the ocean floor at Disney, which has placed a three-month hold on the filmmaker as it decides whether to move forward with the project. Pic has not yet received a greenlight. Fincher is courting his frequent collaborator Brad Pitt to star as sailor and master harpooner Ned Land. Have an update? Send it in!

Storyline
A fugitive whaler teams up with a naturalist, a mysterious woman and a captain of a futuristic submarine, to search for a lost underwatercivilization that holds libraries of vast knowledge and a weapon with the power to destroy mankind.
Additional Notes:
Based on Jules Verne's sci-fi novel. Although Disney produced the 1954 version, the story is in the public domain and there is also a Fox version of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in development.
