Movies Released on February 25, 2011

This Year In Movies - Drive Angry, and Hall Pass open in wide release this weekend. The Farrelly Brothers have the best chance of winning the weekend. Their temporary-escape-from-marriage comedy has Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis taking a week off from their wives played by Jenna Fischer and Christina Applegate. However, Peter and Bobby Farrelly haven't fared well at the box office since their late 1990s blockbusters Dumb & Dumber and There's something About Mary. Their last movie, The Heartbreak Kid, took in $14 million in ticket sales its first weekend. Trading on The Hollywood Stock Exchange indicates an open under $20 million. The other new release, Drive Angry, has Nicolas Cage and Amber Heard driving around in a brutally violent movie. The poster proudly notes that it was Shot In 3D, but it's hard to say if that will help attract moviegoers. The tracking is around around $10 million.

Last weekend was a close race for the top movie, but it wasn't the expected releases. The presumed number one movie, I Am Number Four, came in third (although coincidently it was in fourth place on Saturday) with around $23 million for the holiday weekend. The race came down to Unknown and Gnomeo and Juliet with Liam Neeson edging out the Gnomes by less than $40,000. Big Mommas came in 4th with close to $19 million.
