Movies Released March 25, 2011

This Year in Movies - Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, and Sucker Punch open in wide release this weekend. There doesn't seem to be a consensus on which new movie will top the box office. Only a year ago, the first Diary of a Wimpy Kid arrived in theaters and grossed $22 million. It went on to sell $64 million in tickets in the US and Canada, which given its modest budget was more than enough to financially justify the sequel. The Zach Snyder directed Watchmen took in over half its total theatrical revenue in its the opening three days, a rare occurrence even for highly anticipated sequels.

Last weekend, it didn't look like any of the new releases would overtake Rango or Battle:LA, but Limitless broke through the pack and racked up nearly $19 million in first place, which was better than expected. Rango remained in second place by taking in $15 million and will pass the $100 million mark by this weekend. Battle: Los Angeles slipped to third place, Lincoln Lawyer came in 4th and Paul finished 5th.... Read More
