This Year in Movies - Due Date, For Colored Girls, Megamind open in wide release this weekend. DreamWorks Animation's superhero movie, with voice talent from Brad Pitt and Will Ferrell, looks to open at number one. The Hollywood Stock Exchange points to a weekend total of around $50 million for Megamind. In July, Universal's Despicable Me opened with over $56 million in ticket sales and its total now stands close to $250 million. Dreamworks would probably like to replicate that box office performance. Also coming to theaters is the R-rated comedy Due Date, starring Zach Galifianakis and Robert Downey Jr., which is on track for a second place finish. With an all-star cast, For Colored Girls will likely finish a strong third.

Last weekend, Saw 3D scared up over $24 million in its seventh attempt. According to Deadline Hollywood, Lionsgate was hoping for a better weekend out of the horror franchise. Even with the 3D ticket prices, a higher box office target seems overly optimistic given the performance of Saw VI and Paranormal Activity 2 still filling theaters. With Halloween over, expect a brutal drop off in attendance for both scare flicks, but it should be even more dramatic for Saw 3D.... Read More
