This Year in Movies - Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, The Virginity Hit, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, You Again open in wide release this weekend. After a 23-year hiatus, Gordon Gekko returns to the big screen with his first chance of opening number one at the box office. In order to win the weekend, he'll have to fend off The Owls of Ga'Hoole. HSX has Money Never Sleeps' weekend open priced in the high 20s and Ga'Hoole in the low 20s. That means Gekko will likely control Friday box office, but if the Owls have any chance at #1, they'll need strong Saturday matinees. The all-female stars of You Again (Kristen Bell, Sigourney Weaver, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kristin Chenoweth, Odette Yustman, Betty White) are set for an open around 15 million. The Sony teen comedy, The Virginity Hit, is slated for a somewhat wide release of around 650 theaters, but it'll be a struggle for it to land in the top 10.

Last weekend, The Town beat expectations and upset Easy A as the top ticket seller. The Boston bank robbers took in nearly $24 million versus the expectations of an open under $20 million. Easy A slightly underperformed with close to $18 million in ticket sales. HSX and tracking polls had put the Emma Stone comedy on track for a #1 finish. Also disappointing, Devil opened with a bit over $12 million. While not directed by M. Night Shyamalan, the movie's Rotten Tomatoes score of 41% failed to break Night's streak of rotten-rated movies dating back to 2002 with Signs (74%).... Read More
