James Cameron Announces 'Avatar' Sequel Release Dates; First in 2020

Director/producer James Cameron announced the long-anticipated (and delayed, for that matter) Avatar sequels have commenced production. The four sequels, which are shooting concurrently, now have confirmed releases dates.

Avatar 2 and  Avatar 3 will hit theaters on December 18, 2020 and December 17, 2021, respectively, followed by a three year break with Avatar 4 coming December 20, 2024. Avatar 5 will be released on December 19, 2025.

Given the original Avatar movie was released back in 2009, at least 16 years will lapse before the conclusion of the presumably final fifth movie in 2025 (which is assuming the film is not delayed or cancelled). Originally the first sequel was planned for release next year in 2018.

Cameron posted the announcement on Facebook and said, "Great to be working with the best team in the business! Avatar takes flight as we begin concurrent production on four sequels".

My question, will audiences even care about the films and/or what if the box performance stalls out (e.g. Divergent)? Feel free to comment below. These days, other than talk about the upcoming Pandora World at Disney World's Animal Kingdom, we rarely hear of much undying love for the fantasy-adventure movie.
