Tells the story of how a murder at Columbia University in 1944 brought together the writers (Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs) who would spark the Beat Revolution.

On a warm spring day in 1924, house maid and foundling Jane Fairchild (Odessa Young) finds herself alone on Mother’s Day. Her employers, Mr and Mrs Niven (Colin Firth and Olivia Colman), are out and she has the rare chance to spend an afternoon of abandon with her secret lover, Paul (Josh O’Connor), the boy from the manor house nearby who is Jane’s long-term love despite the fact that he’s engaged to be married to another woman, a childhood friend and daughter of his parents’ friends. But events that neither can foresee will change the course of Jane’s life forever.

Two women, Janis and Ana, coincide in a hospital room where they are going to give birth. Both are single and became pregnant by accident. Janis, middle-aged, doesn’t regret it and she is exultant. The other, Ana, an adolescent, is scared, repentant and traumatized. Janis tries to encourage her while they move like sleepwalkers along the hospital corridors. The few words they exchange in these hours will create a very close link between the two, which by chance develops and complicates, and changes their lives in a decisive way.

In the film, two outsiders, both shaped by the circumstances that have brought them together, forge a deep and lasting love. Director Gus Van Sant will present a take on friendship and young love as engaging and true as it is provocative and stirring.

In 1968, two producers went to a downtown Detroit bar to see an unknown recording artist – a charismatic Mexican-American singer/songwriter named Rodriguez who had attracted a local following with his mysterious presence, soulful melodies and prophetic lyrics. In the intensity and lushness of summer, the monk, now a young man, experiences the power of lust, a desire that will ultimately lead him, as an adult, to dark deeds. With winter, strikingly set on the ice and snow-covered lake, the man atones for his past actions, and spring starts the cycle anew...

The Rome-set segment revolves around a young couple on a road trip, to be played be Casey Affleck and Moran Atias. Both Liam Neeson and Olivia Wilde will play writers in the Paris-set section of the film. Mila Kunis is negotiating to play one half of an estranged couple in New York, with James Franco playing her partner in the segment.
