Barbara Thorson (Madison Wolfe) is a teenage girl who escapes the realities of school and a troubled family life by retreating into her magical world of fighting evil giants. With the help of her new friend Sophia (Sydney Wade) and her school counselor (Zoe Saldana), Barbara learns to face her fears and battle the giants that threaten her world.

Imaginary friends who have long been used as scapegoats by unscrupulous children look for someone else to blame for their misdeeds. Eventually fed up, the imaginary people come looking for some payback when the kids are grown up.

Storyline revolves around a group of nine Earthbound aliens who escaped their planet just before it was destroyed by a rival species. The group hide out on Earth, disguised as teenagers. The title character (Alex Pettyfer) soon discovers, however, that he is still being hunted by the enemy.
