London, 1905. Prodigal son Thomas Richardson (Dan Stevens) has returned home, only to learn that his sister is being held for ransom by a religious cult. Set in 1918, egged on by romantic dreams of heroism, Paul Baumer and his friends Albert and Muller voluntarily enlist in the German army.
