As all of Edo flocks to see the work of the revered painter Hokusai, his daughter O-Ei toils diligently inside his studio. Her masterful portraits, dragons and erotic sketches- sold under the name of her father- are coveted by upper crust Lords and journeyman print makers alike. Shy and reserved in public, in the studio O-Ei is as brash and uninhibited as her father, smoking a pipe while sketching drawings that would make contemporary Japanese ladies blush. But despite this fiercely independent spirit, O-Ei struggles under the domineering influence of her father and is ridiculed for lacking the life experience that she is attempting to portray in her art. Based on the best-selling graphic novel series, a group of spoiled “bad kids” have been placed in Saturday detention at the prestigious Crestview Academy. After one of the kids locks away their teacher, they find themselves trapped in school with no way out, wondering who (or what) set them up. Their ranks quickly dwindle as each falls victim to a gruesome “accident” while trying to escape.

Jackie (Benz), a troubled young woman with an unyielding alcohol addiction, is released from rehab and given a second chance with a new job and a furnished apartment at Havenhurst. Guilt-ridden over the tragic loss of her eight-year-old daughter, Jackie is quickly drawn into the mysteries of Havenhurst, in particular the unsolved disappearance of the apartment’s previous occupant, a young woman (Harris) she befriended in rehab who disappeared recently without a trace.

Brothers Kenny (Kevin Janssens) and Dave (Jeroen Perceval) are lumpen Flemish hoodlums whose ineptitude causes Kenny to take the fall when a heist goes wrong. Four years later, Kenny is out of prison, but, as he soon discovers, things have drastically changed. His girlfriend, Sylvie (Veerle Baetens), has moved in with his brother Dave and is pregnant with his baby. Eventually, Kenny's feral impulses put the brothers on the wrong side of the law again, leading them to an awkward collusion with Kenny’s old cellmate, Stef (Jan Bijvoet), amid a gallery of bizarre characters in the forests of the Ardennes.
