'Conchords' Star McKenzie an Elf in 'The Hobbit'
Flight of the Conchords star Bret McKenzie has joined the cast of The Hobbit, which began shooting March 21. New Zealand-based McKenzie made brief appearances as an extra in the first and third Lord of the Rings pics in which he achieved fan fame on the Internet with the fan-created nickname "Figwit."

Production begins in New Zealand
The two films, with screenplays by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson, will be shot consecutively in digital 3D using the latest camera and stereo technology. Filming will take place at Stone Street Studios, Wellington, and on location around New Zealand.
