Nate Ryan has himself fooled. He thinks he has a promising career co-founding a tech company that sells overpriced baby cribs and he thinks he's successfully living a life removed from his abusive father, Gene. After Nate gets the phone call saying Gene is losing a surprise battle with cancer, he returns to his dusty California hometown short on enthusiasm. With the help of his emotionally savvy little sister, his larger-than-life childhood best friend, and Gene's compulsively unfiltered hospice nurse, Nate opens old wounds in an attempt to make peace with his incredibly unpeaceful past.

Told through the reminiscences of a father (Jeremy London) trying to help his own tween children with their grief, a young boy attempts to contact his deceased mother with the help of his friends. When a mysterious man appears, seemingly only visible to him, his friends think he is going crazy. The discussions young "Billy" has with "Leonard" teaches him to cherish relationships with his own friends, and how to navigate loss, love, and eternal connections.

When the dead are back, what do we do with them? In this horror comedy, instead of a bloodthirsty horde, the undead are a peaceful and oppressed collective, whose social integration is fought for by a group of activists, and whose subalternity is taken advantage of by certain heartless people. The protagonists of the film will find themselves caught up in this conflict of wills, forced to fight against a megacorporation in order to save their grandmother.

Ethan throws a surprise birthday party for his girlfriend Jane, with plans to propose before the night ends, but despite all his careful planning, things quickly go awry. Sibling rivalries cause conflict, exes show up uninvited, and Grandma even stops by to take back the family ring. Luckily, Ethan and Jane’s friends are as compassionate as they are chaotic, and they help the couple to find their way to a happy ending.
