Movies Released on February 4, 2011

This Year In Movies - Sanctum, and The Roommate open in wide release this weekend. It looks like a repeat of last weekend's box office. The college suspense thriller centered around roommates played by Leighton Meester and Minka Kelly looks to gross in the $14 to $16 million range. Although Cameron seems to gets all the attention, the film is directed by Alister Grierson.

Last weekend, The Rite grossed $14.8 million, enough for number one place. No Strings Attached showed surprising staying power and grossed $13.4 million, which was down only 32% from a week earlier. The Mechanic came in third with $11.4 million. Not bad given the expectations, but box office overall is down considerably from 2010 when Avatar was still selling tickets at a record pace and it is highly unlikely Cameron's 2011 effort will recover the pace....
