An eighth grader navigates the perils of a new school, with all the crushes, mean girls and friends and enemies that get in the way.

Story centers on Kate Larson, who creates an avatar named Rina for the SimuLife computer game. One day Rina springs to life and demands equal time in the real world.

The story follows Darby Harper, who after suffering a near-death experience as a child is granted the ability to see ghosts. To combat the existential boredom of high school, she runs a side business counseling local spirits in her spare time.
