When the mysterious deaths of a series of loyal subjects threaten to delay the 690 A.D. inauguration of Empress Wu, China's only female leader, she calls the infamous Detective Dee back from an exile into which she cast him eight years earlier.

Wing Chun grandmaster Ip Man (Donnie Yen) has the perfect family, plenty of money, a beautiful house, and a blossoming martial arts academy. But when the Japanese occupy his hometown of Foshan during the Sino-Japanese war of 1937, Ip, like the rest of the locals, is forced into hard labor and brutal sparring matches for the enemy's amusement. Set in the Jiu-Jitsu fight world of Los Angeles, after a Jiu-Jitsu master, turns from prizefighting to running a self-defense studio, he is conned by a group of movie stars and fight promoters and must enter the ring and fight in order to regain his honor.

The project is described as an espionage story set in an alternate 1884 where the industrial revolution went a lot further and faster along than it has - resulting in a futuristic imperial metropolis beset with steam-powered flying cars and the scientific advancement of mankind.

The story is based on the Chinese legend of the monkey king, and follows a teenager who finds the king's stick weapon in a pawn shop. The teen is transported back in time to ancient China, where he joins with some warriors as they attempt to free their king. Jet Li will play two roles - the monkey king and the silent monk. Jackie Chan will play monk T'sa-Ho.

Boss Suchart is the influential owner of a major elephant camp. When he was murdered in his own home – the killer delivered three fatal blows on his body – all evidence points to KHAM (Tony Jaa), who was present at the crime scene and was seen with the victim the moment before he died. These fighters are ordered to defeat and capture Kham for a special mission that LC has in mind.
