Three police officers conduct surveillance on a trading company. One night, two of the officers overhear an executive give a shares tip to his secretary. They wipe the evidence from the records and decide to make a quick killing themselves. The attorneys representing the families then hire Rodney Smolla, a First Amendment attorney and professor at William & Mary Law School, to consult on the historic case, which takes five years to settle amidst a series of shocking and bizarre developments.
