Not to be forgotten, The Next Three Days also arrives in theaters on Friday. Other studios have typically avoided debuting their movies on the same the release date of any Harry Potter sequel. The most successful counter-programming was in 2005 with Walk the Line which sold $22.3 million in tickets. Despite its solid cast, The Next Three Days will be fortunate to break $10 million.
Last weekend, Megamind became a back-to-back champion with a $29.1 million weekend, bringing its total to $88.8 million. Unstoppable took in $22.7 million and a strong critical reception (85% on Rotten Tomatoes) while Skyline under performed with $11.7 million and lousy reviews (13%).
