Colin Trevorrow Out as Director of Lucasfilm's 'Star Wars: Episode IX'

In another surprise move, Jurassic World helmer Colin Trevorrow has been booted from directing duties of Lucasfilm's upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX. This is similar to how directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street) were axed from the currently shooting untitled Han Solo film (and eventually replaced with Ron Howard).

Lucasfilm parent company, Disney, issued a short statement on Tuesday afternoon about the departure.

"Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX," the statement said. "Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process, but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon."

Star Wars: Episode IX was expected to hit theaters on May 24, 2019.

Trevorrow's recently released film Naomi Watts starrer The Book of Henry was poorly reviewed and made only $4.2 million domestically (compared to the over $600 million domestic gross of Jurassic World, if you can even make the comparison).
