In 1999, a drug bust in Tulia, Texas leads to 10% of the town's African American population being arrested. An attorney from the NAACP's Legal Defense and Educational Fund becomes involved. The arrests never produce neither drugs nor money and they end up causing prosecutors and civil rights groups to denounce the bust as racial profiling. The undercover agent who conducted the bust is indicted for perjury, and most of the 46 arrestees are pardoned by Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

The agents take the untrained kids and wire them up and put them into incredibly dangerous sting operations to catch big fish. Law enforcement seems indifferent about their kid snitches, and kept using the kids over and over again under the threat they would otherwise be sent to prison. When the dealers learn the kids are working for agents they are tortured, beaten. After the fact, the cops circle the wagons and sometimes paint the murder victims as incorrigible druggies as their outraged families sue.

A workaholic female attorney, who believes she wrecked her chances of being named partner at her London firm, has a meltdown and ends up in the English countryside. After stopping at a large house to ask directions, she is mistaken as a candidate for a maid position and takes a housekeeping job.
