When an eccentric female artist (Diane Keaton) in New York City is faced with eviction from her home of 40 years by a powerful developer (Andy Garcia)who wants to demolish her building, she forges two unlikely alliances; one with the developer’s son, Max, (Josh Hutcherson), who was supposed to be in charge of her eviction but instead becomes her friend and advocate; and the other with an ambitious female TV reporter who creates a media event out of it. A charming and heart warming New York tale, where the protagonists fight for the heart and soul of the city they call home.

Ignatius J. Reilly is 30 years old and lives at home with his mother in New Orleans. The author never lived to see the book's publication; he committed suicide in 1969. The book went on to win the Pulitzer Prize.
