While collecting junk one day, best friends Sonny and Sam meet Slappy, a mischievous talking dummy from an unpublished "Goosebumps" book by R.L. Stine. Hoping to start his own family, Slappy kidnaps Sonny's mother and brings all of his ghoulish friends back to life -- just in time for Halloween. As the sleepy town becomes overrun with monsters, witches and other mysterious creatures, Sonny joins forces with his sister, Sam and a kindly neighbor to save Sonny's mom and foil Slappy's plan.

With a family to consider, the courageous Zorro must now weigh the consequences of his secretive, crime-fighting, swashbuckling life: he has become estranged from both his wife, Elena, and child, Joaquin. Two brothers discover an oblong box in the park, which they dismiss as just some dumb old game. The boys turn their attention away from the game's jungle adventure board to discover a second game board inside with an outer-space theme and a colored path leading to the purple planet, Zathura. The quartet moves from the big city to the suburbs for an idyllic life. A house renovation leads to chaos, particularly when the contractor who clashes with the husband bonds with his wife and the two kids.
