The dramedy interweaves the stories of various family members over the course of a year. Greg Kinnear plays a famous novelist obsessed with his ex-wife (Jennifer Connelly), while Lily Collins co-stars as their collegiate daughter Samantha who is pursued by fellow writing student (Logan Lerman). Nat Wolff will play her teenage brother, who is experiencing first love with Liana Liberato’s character. Kristen Bell has been cast as a friend of the novelist who is trying to help him get over his ex-wife.

Duncan’s (Ken Marino) life is a real pain in the ass. Tormented by a manipulative, crooked boss (Patrick Warburton), a nagging mother (Mary Kay Place) with a boyfriend 1/3 her age, a deadbeat new age dad (Stephen Root), and a sweet, yet pressuring, wife (Gillian Jacobs), his mounting stress starts to trigger an insufferable gastrointestinal reaction. Out of ideas and at the end of his rope, Duncan seeks the help of a hypnotherapist (Peter Stormare), who helps him discover the root of his unusual stomach pain: a pintsized demon living in his intestine that, triggered by excessive anxiety, forces its way out and slaughters the people who have angered him. Out of fear that his intestinal gremlin may target its wrath on the wrong person, Duncan attempts to befriend it, naming it Milo and indulging it to keep its seemingly insatiable appetite at bay.

If the group is going to complete the list by September they'll need plenty of imagination and very open minds.

All the while, Joe and Chrissie’s father Lenny Fairburns (Brian Cox), the former chief of police, remains in the car, a quiet spectator to the fatal tragedy that begins to tear his sons apart. Unspoken secrets and unvoiced suspicions drive the ominous suspense as Joe spirals into an obsessive confrontation between crimes of the present and crimes of the past.

Daisy von Scherler Mayer (PARTY GIRL) directs this journey of a modern-day Candide stumbling through a landscape familiar to most men—messy breakups.
