Four friends break into an abandoned insane asylum in search of a death certificate which will grant one of them a large inheritance. However, finding it soon becomes the least of their worries in a place haunted by dark memories.

Follows an elderly man (Frank Langella) who has made the decision to take advantage of Oregon's assisted suicide law. His son-in-law (Billy Crudup) agrees to drive him 3,000 miles across the country, hoping to change his mind along the way.

As Joan gets closer to the school, Kat becomes plagued by progressively intense and horrifying visions, with Rose doing her best to help her new friend as she slips further and further into the grasp of an unseen evil force. The movie suspensefully builds to the moment when the two stories will finally intersect, setting the stage for a shocking and unforgettable climax.
