On 12 July 1993, he is due to leave Mogadishu but then UN forces bomb a house where they believe the warlord General Farah Aideed is present. Instead, 74 innocent men, women and children are killed and more than 100 injured. Survivors race to the journalists' hotel and ask them to take pictures. Travelling in convoy, under the protection of Somalis, Eldon and a group of colleagues go to the bombed compound. As they begin to take photographs, the crowd erupts in anger at what has happened and attack the journalists, who are stoned and beaten to death.
