Movies Released on August 26, 2011

This Year In Movies - Colombiana, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, and Our Idiot Brother open in wide release this weekend. It looks like another week where the new releases will struggle to gain the attention of moviegoers. The early tracker had all three of the new releases on the borderline between single and double digits.

Last weekend, The Help had an excellent second weekend dropping less than 25% from its debut and will now easily pass $100 million by the end of summer. In second place, Apes has a good third week with $16 million. The same couldn't be said for the quartet of new movies. The 4th Spy Kids movie couldn't crack $12 million. That was the lowest open of the franchise and less than half of the original's open a decade ago. In fourth place, Conan bearly passed $10 million and, in fifth, Fright Night sold just $8 million in tickets. One Day finished in 9th place with $5 million.... Read More
