Movies Released March 9, 2012

This Year in Movies - A Thousand Words, John Carter, Silent House open in wide release this weekend. Unfortunately for Disney, most of the discussion this weekend is not so much about the box office but instead the cost of John Carter. With an estimated production budget of $250 million, the sci-fi epic must see equally epic ticket sales simply to break even.

According to the Los Angeles Times, John Carter will need around $700 million in global box office revenue before there's any profit. The paper also reports that tracking is down from a $30 million weekend to just $25 million. The Hollywood Stock Exchange trading is around $30 million, which would probably only be enough for a second place finish behind The Lorax.
