Set during WWII, in this military adventure, a small, specialized squad of U.S. Army African American soldiers are sent on an unofficial rescue mission behind enemy lines to locate their missing commanding officer. The squad – upon battling their way through the German defenses – encounters more than they bargained for when they locate a downed U.S. Army pilot. With the help of their friends from the 761st tank battalion, the squad must find a way to survive and make it back in one piece.

The Battle of Iwo Jima, which took place in the winter of 1945, was a turning point in the Pacific Theater. In one month, 22,000 Japanese and 26,000 Americans died, and the battle produced one of World War II's most enduring images: a photograph of U.S. servicemen raising an American flag on the flank of Mount Suribachi, the island's commanding high point.

1942. France is under Nazi control. The Allies have been pushed off the continent and their defeat in North Africa seems likely. Germany’s victory is nearly absolute.

Left under the supervision of her domineering mother-in-law when the husband she never really loved heads off to war, the young woman's only escape is playing the piano. A young German officer assigned to stay at their home is a former composer, and the attraction between him and the young woman is immediate.
