Eileen Cleary, a devout Catholic in the running for the coveted Catholic Woman of the Year award at her church, must prove that her family conforms to the image of the "perfect family," by lying about her gay daughter Shannon who's having a baby with her life partner, her unhappily married son Frank Jr. who recently left his wife, and the painful truth about her own marriage to her long-suffering husband Frank.

The timely story of Paloma (Garance Le Guillermic), a young girl bent on ending it all on her upcoming twelfth birthday. Using her father’s old camcorder to chronicle the hypocrisy she sees in adults, Paloma begins to learn about life from the grumpy building concierge, Renée Michel (Josiane Balasko). When Paloma’s camera reveals the extensive secret library in Renée’s back room, and that the often gruff matron reads Tolstoy to her cat, Paloma begins to understand that there are allies to be found beneath the prickliest of exteriors. As the unlikely friendship deepens, Paloma’s own coming of age becomes a much less pessimistic prospect.

For Jacky, a young man working on his family’s cattle farm in eastern Belgium, the crime ring surrounding the use of banned growth hormones represents both a financial opportunity and the possible exposure of his own troubled past. With an old friend urging him to agree to an illegal deal, Jacky finds himself drawn into a dangerous web that has already resulted in the death of a policeman investigating the ring.
