In the film, a deep-sea submersible—part of an international undersea observation program—has been attacked by a massive creature, previously thought to be extinct, and now lies disabled at the bottom of the deepest trench in the Pacific…with its crew trapped inside. With time running out, expert deep sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) is recruited by a visionary Chinese oceanographer (Winston Chao), against the wishes of his daughter Suyin (Li Bingbing), to save the crew—and the ocean itself—from this unstoppable threat: a pre-historic 75-foot-long shark known as the Megalodon. What no one could have imagined is that, years before, Taylor had encountered this same terrifying creature. Follows a high tech intelligent, lovable robot that is stolen from a secret research facility by the project’s lead scientist, Dr. Josephine Palmer (Kelly Hu). During an intense chase, Dr. Palmer is forced to hide F.R.E.D.I. in an abandoned shelter deep in the forest.

F.R.E.D.I. is found by 15-year-old James (Lucius Hoyos), and the pair quickly bond as they skate through teenage troubles whilst keeping it a secret from James’ recently divorced father, Randy (Tyler Christopher). James’ best friend, science-whiz kid Danny (Reid Miller), and the subject of James’ affection, the unattainable Natalie (Casimere Jollette), team up to escape the manic corporate villain Grant (Angus MacFadyen), hot on F.R.E.D.I.’s tracks.

When teens mysteriously develop powerful new abilities, they are declared a threat by the government and detained. Sixteen-year-old Ruby, one of the most powerful young people anyone has encountered, escapes her camp and joins a group of runaway teens seeking safe haven.
